  unlike Apple which charges you $99 a year to even be able to run an app on your own phone, once you download the SDK, you can make any app you want and run it on your own phone or even give it to friends to run and its all FREE :)

  you will need to know how to program in Java, and then check out the tutorials on the Android site, you can use any Java editor you want but all of the tutorials will be using Eclipse so I suggest you download that one (its free).
